Death Education on-line sessions are 2 hours long and provide an opportunity for greater learning and understanding of death, dying, grief and loss, and provide each participant with skills, tools and resources to better manage this important phase of life.
Introduction to Death and Dying: Understanding and Preparing
This session will provide you with valuable information about the journey with dying and death. We will explore the different aspects of dying, death, loss and grief. You will have an opportunity to explore end of life values and beliefs in a safe environment.
In this session you will learn about the different choices and options in end of life care that are available to you. We will explore how advance care planning can prepare you and your substitute decision maker for future or current health care decisions. You will have an opportunity to express your end of life wishes to your family and friends.
In this session we will focus on learning the fundamentals of active listening, holding space and exploring ways to stay present with strong emotions. You will have an opportunity to engage in open and honest conversations about death, dying and grief. You will gain confidence in speaking with your family, friends and community about what is important to you at the end of life.
During this session you will learn to pay attention to the signs and symptoms of negative stress and understand its impact on your well being. You will learn how to better care for yourself and minimize stress using simple mindfulness tools and techniques.
In this session we will explore various losses and ways grief is expressed. You will gain a better understanding of individual and collective grief and expand your own healing through sharing of personal stories.
